Song choices

Here are some songs I am considering using for my degree project.  I will potentially make about 3-5 videos so will need 3-5 songs. I am still unsure of the genre and style I want the videos to be, so I am including a multitude of song ideas just to get my thoughts out there. Multiple tracks from Hayley Williams' album Petals For Armor : Simmer Leave It Alone Cinnamon  Dead Horse Why We Ever Sugar On The Rim Crystal Clear Multiple tracks from Daughter's album Music From Before the Storm: Burn It Down Witches All I Wanted Dreams of William Grimes 4ÆM Oblivion Future Holograms Valentine Crystal Castles Celestica Lady Gaga Aura Replay Alice Babylon I am most leaning towards using tracks from Petals For Armor  by Hayley Williams for a few reasons. The album only came out this year so it is still very fresh. The album has also not gone on tour yet so there are no pre-existing tour visuals for me to draw inspiration from, meaning if I were to create my own visuals, they would b...

Tour visuals idea

One of my favourite pieces of video work is this intro for Lady Gaga's Coachella gig in 2017. It's this strange video that hypes the audience up before the concert and get's them excited for Gaga to perform. The video features a background track of this techno sci-fi beat, cut with images of Lady Gaga with a tentacle in her mouth, or staring into the camera with promo shots of her. The whole video seems like some kind of subliminal message, and it both creeps out the audience but also entices you for the performance of the singer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ssrZQNGLd8&ab_channel=LadyGaga This got me thinking about making some tour visuals for a concert as opposed to an actual music video. With tour visuals, they are usually edited in-time with the track of specific songs but don't follow the traditional beats and story of a regular music video. This allows for more creative freedom as I can pretty much create any kind of narrative or visual I want without havi...

Music video thoguhts

After deciding that I want to make another music video this year for my degree project, I consulted with my lecturers and they suggested making multiple videos, potentially around a lesser known band or songs. I wouldn't want to make videos for songs that already have videos as that would be a bit confusing / redundant for audiences in my opinion.  I started drawing some shot ideas and images that I might want to include in the video. I have this idea of flowers sprouting out of the body or something creepy like that, and I was inspired by the songs from Petals for Armor by Hayley Williams for some of these images. There are songs from this album that I would love to actually make videos for, so I have this album as one of my prime inspirations.  It was also suggested that I start filming just random shots anyway to get an idea of the kind of visuals I want to create so I will go out soon and start filming.

Degree project initial ideas

We were asked in our lecture today to come up with some initial ideas for our degree project as well as some inspiration from existing work.  My main ideas for the Degree Project module are to make a music video / series of music videos / an extended music video. I’m conscious of how ambitious I should be against what is a realistic outcome, considering the limitations that Covid has placed on me. For example, how easy would it be for me to access a studio space to film in? How can I involve actors / people to help me film whilst ensuring social distance takes place? These are things I am slightly worried about.  I was really disappointed with the music video I created in the Independent Project module last year because it pales in comparison to the music video I had originally planned, and I am worried about the same thing happening again due to Covid. I will, of course, carry out risk assessments to ensure safety during the filming process. Here are some examples of mu...
