Analysis of artifacts 1

Image
I will complete a series of critical analyses to further research the themes and style I want to create for my degree project. Here I shall be analysing the music video for Simmer by Hayley Williams.  The video begins with a heavy breathing and no visuals for a brief moment. This builds tension and suspense as the audience are eager to find out what will happen next. We then see Hayley Williams running naked in the woods in a birds eye view shot, whilst the heavy panting continues. This is where the first few notes of the song start to play out, with this sinister monotone note being repeated several times. Immediately this instils a tense and creepy atmosphere in just the first few seconds of the video. As the song and the video progresses, we realise that there is this red glow that appears to be following the protagonist, and my interpretation is that this is the anxiety, depression and feelings of anger that Hayley is trying to run away from and escape. This is because of the l...

Petals For Armor

I have decided that I will solely make videos based around songs from Hayley Williams' most recent album Petals For Armor . I have decided to make videos from this artist because her album only released this year, meaning the sound and subject matter is still very fresh. Also, Hayley has yet to go on tour with this album, therefore there are no pre-existing visuals for any tours.  I still haven't quite decided which songs I will make visuals for, but so far my initial choices are:  Cinnamon Simmer Sugar On The Rim Crystal Clear I will likely make 3 music videos for these songs, as well as one intro video to introduce the concert, and one interlude in between two songs. Therefore the structure will likely follow like this: Intro video  Song 1 Song 2 Interlude Song 3 The intro video will probably have the backing track of one of Hayley's other songs, just as an instrumental to follow with the theme of the album.

Identification of target audience

When thinking about the target audience for my project, it's important to understand the fanbase of the songs I am thinking of using. Because I want to make videos based on the discography of Hayley Williams, it's important to understand her music journey.  She has been the front woman or rock band 'Paramore' since 2004, who made a name for themselves in the late 2000 for their punk rock songs like 'Misery Business' and 'Decode' which were extremely popular among the emo sub culture. This was at a time when punk bands like Blink-182 and Green Day were extremely popular. Most followers of their music at the time where likely to be teenagers, meaning today they would fall around the 18-35 year old demographic. Any loyal followers of Hayley Williams likely fall in this boundary, therefore I would estimate that my target audience is likely to be in this age bracket. The genre for Petals For Armor  is likely to be classes as indie/alternative rock music, so ...

Lockdown 2

We are now going into another lockdown which has me worried about how I will complete my assignment. Hopefully by the time I have to start filming I will still be able to go outside and see people in order to film people for my project. My aim is to have one of my friends as the main subject of the video, so I'm hoping that by January things will be a lot clearer regarding meetings in person.
